The International Watch Company, known as IWC for short, was founded in 1868 by Boston watchmaker and engineer Florentine Ariosto Jones. He made the decision to manufacture high-quality watches in Switzerland for the American market. Today, the manufactory on the Rhine can not be imagined without.
In beautiful Schaffhausen, far from most Swiss manufactories in western Switzerland, IWC produces masterpieces of haute horlogerie that combine technology and precision with exclusive design. Today's watch models offer complications such as power reserve display, moon phase, minute repeater, tourbillon and perpetual calendar, among others.

Portuguese
The history of the Portugieser collection, arguably the most sought-after model from IWC, began in 1939 with a letter from two merchants in Portugal. At that time, dainty, preferably rectangular wristwatches are in demand. The two businessmen, however, wanted a "really big watch" in the style of an accurately running marine chronometer, but to be worn on the arm, so that they could sell it to captains and officers of the Portuguese merchant fleet. At the time, however, this was still difficult to implement. When the first "big wristwatch" is delivered, it is further ahead of its time, both technically and aesthetically - the birth of the IWC Portugieser.

Portofino
Particularly eye-catching is the IWC Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days. Simple and expressive with well-set details. The flagship of the Portofino family owes its name to a sophisticated finesse of its movement. The lushly dimensioned barrel of the 59210 caliber gives it great endurance and is thus able to store power for over 9 days. However, these are not utilized in this way, as the movement stops via a gearbox after exactly 192 hours - that's exactly 8 days.

Aircraft watches
Even the first IWC Pilot's Watches of the 1930s and 1940s exerted a formative influence on how one imagines a classic pilot's watch, which can still be seen today. For example, the Great Pilot's Watch of 1940 is still considered the quintessential pilot's watch. With a diameter of 55 mm, it was the largest wristwatch ever produced by IWC. Even today, pilot watches stand out for their size, high-contrast and therefore easy to read dials with large luminous indices or luminous numerals, large luminous hands and large, so-called onion crowns.

Da Vinci
The Da Vinci models are fascinating little works of art. It is almost unimaginable how many complications can work in so little space. And then for (almost) all eternity!
Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, architect, anatomist, mechanic, engineer and natural philosopher. Da Vinci as a timepiece combines as many talents and skills as its namesake: chronograph, perpetual calendar, small date, weekday display, month display, year display, moon phase, small seconds.

Grande Complication
There are watches. And there is what is called the dream of a watch. A masterpiece. A time machine in the truest sense.
The "Grande Complication" is composed of 659 mechanical parts and combines 17 different functions. It features a perpetual calendar that displays the next 500 years of date, day of the week and month, as well as a perpetual moon phase display made of polished gold river. In addition, there are other exclusive functions such as the minute repeater.
