The Rolex success story began in 1905, when Hans Wilsdorf and the watch-casing manufacturer Davis founded, in London, a watchmaking wholesalers. They recognized, long before competitors, the successful future awaiting the wristwatch. Over time, Rolex has developed many very successful and popular models: the waterproof Rolex Oyster (1927), the Rolex Perpetual automatic watch (1931) the Explorer (1953), the Submariner dive watch (1953), the GMT-Master time zone watch (1954), the Day-Date (1956) and the world renowned Daytona Chronograph (1961).

Contrary to many other watchmakers who regularly change models, Rolex invests in consistant improvement and development of their standing collection. Many of today's models made their debut 50 years ago, and have kept the same outward appearance; most changes are not visual, but technical advances. 
Rolex today is producing the most chronometer watch-movements and, with about 13 tons per year, the largest gold processor in Switzerland. The Geneva-made watches are known for their exceptionally stable market-price, and at the same time are copied more often than any other market product.
