The last seconds until the start of the race drag on agonizingly long. Then the tension explodes in a chaos of roaring engines and smoking tires. With documentary footage and fast cuts, the cult film "Le Mans" transports the viewer to the racetracks of the early 70s. Technical revolutions coupled with a lack of safety let every race become a highlight and every driver a death-defying hero.
The "King of Cool" Steve McQueen was a speed fanatic, infatuated with cars and motorcycles. For the filming, which absolutely had to be shot at full throttle throughout, racing greats were specially recruited, along with original vehicles.

So did the Porsche works driver Jo Siffert. The latter organized a box of 20 Heuer watches at the start of filming: two hand stopwatches and six chronographs each of the Autavia, Carrera and Monaco types. McQueen spontaneously chose the new, unusual rectangular chronograph Monaco reference 1133B with automatic movement. With the help of Steve McQueen, this model became world famous and highly sought after. The original worn by him during filming was auctioned a few years ago for a fabulous $800,000. The history of TAG Heuer began in 1860 with Edouard Heuer in the remote mountain village of Saint-Imier in Switzerland. In 1891, Heuer's sons Charles-Auguste and JulesEdouard took over the management of the company. In 1958, Jack W. Heuer, a great-grandson of the company's founder, begins working for the company. Among other things, he is credited with the development of the legendary classic sports watch "Carrera". The company thus remained in family hands until the quartz crisis of 1982. Jack W. Heuer is forced to make the bitter decision to sell the family business. After a short detour over Piaget, follows 1985 the resale to the group "Techniques d'Avant Garde" (TAG).
In 1999, the French luxury goods manufacturer Louis Vuitton then comes into play. The name TAG-Heuer remains, however. As honorary president and consultant still part of the company is Edouard's great-grandson Jack W. Heuer.
TAG Heuer has a troubled history behind it, but as the company motto says nicely, they do not let themselves be too impressed by the pressure.
